Anne Wood: It was more a case that television found me than I found television. I was involved in publishing a magazine about books for children and that's where it started. Television companies are looking for people with specific skills and experience so be absolutely certain about which area of television production you want to work in and what skills and experience you have. Then approach the production companies you think are relevant. You can find lists of independent production companies and information about their trade organisation Producers Alliance of Cinema and Television (PACT) in The Media Guide 2000 (a Guardian book published by Fourth Estate at £15.00, ISBN 1 84115 232-3), or look for a copy in your local reference library.
